The Wall Street Journal had an interesting story Monday (8/24) detailing a family feud involving the clan that controls more than 70% of Brown-Forman voting stock. Two cousins sent a "a scathing seven-page letter to more than 130 of their relatives. Their company was in crisis and management had enriched itself despite a failing strategy," they wrote. As we reported early Saturday morning, the U.S. implemented 50% tariffs on about 5% of Canada's exports to the U.S – about $20 billion a year of everything from timber to hockey sticks to tongue depressors. . Canada said the U.S. at the last minute made new demands. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Canada had walked away from the table. During the four weeks ended Aug. 15, Total Alcohol sat behind a year ago. Dollar sales reached $8.5 billion, down 3.4% from a year earlier, while case volume totaled 167.1 million, declining 5.3%. On a weekly basis, dollar sales held flat once again, reaching $2.1 billion, down 0.9% from the week ending Aug. 8th. With the summer selling window quickly closing, Alcohol has only a few key seasonal weeks left to reverse course against the persistent pressures shaping category performance this year

Strategic Beverage Services said it became the largest dealcoholization service provider in the U.S. after acquiring BevZero's U.S. operations. Terms weren't disclosed. Patrick Morgan, Chief Operating Officer of Strategic Beverage Services, said the acquisition strengthens the company's ability to deliver dealcoholization services at scale and positions it to lead what he called the fastest-growing segment of the beverage industry. BevZero-US currently provides services to eight of the Top 10

Nearly half (41%) of respondents said having a specific occasion or reason to gather, such as Come Over October, would make them more likely to host a gathering with wine. That's according to a national survey for Come Over October and LocalWineEvents.com. The 2026 Wine & Gathering Study included 1,553 respondents across two surveys. Among the findings: \* Wine is already a regular part of respondents' social lives: 61% said wine is “almost always” part of their social get-togethers and another . . . .
