### [For Republicans, a Very Bad Night. Will Trump End His Tariff War with Canada?](https://bevnews.net/for-republicans-a-very-bad-night-will-trump-end-his-tariff-war-with-canada/)

President Trump urged voters to vote as if he was on the ballot. Apparently, they did, delivering a stunning rebuke and handing control of the House and the Senate to the Democrats. Poll after poll showed the No. 1 concern of both Republicans and Democrats was the economy and the cost of living. Stunningly, for the first time since 1932, alcohol played a silent role in this – President Trump's tariff war with Canada resulted in total U.S. alcohol exports to Canada falling to $208 million

Only 1,930 tons of grapes were expected to be harvested by Maryland vineyards – that's just 25% of what the state's winegrowers had expected before a devastating freeze that stretched from New York State to Virginia. Spring 2025 was strange. Temperatures were expectionally warm – in the 90s, with many of us joking we were glad we hadn't gone to Florida for Spring break. And then temperatures plunged to the teens and mid-20s across much of the mid-Atlantic.

(Courtresy Four Roses)

Four Roses Distillery is introducing Experimental Series No. 003: Chestnut, a limited-edition release that explores the distinctive flavors chestnut wood can bring to its signature bourbon. The third installment in Four Roses’ Experimental Series, this release pairs its six-year-old OBSK recipe with Japanese chestnut wood barrels, creating a rounded and creamy palate, with notes of vanilla bean, pear and ripe cherry, complimented by sweet, toasted wood and hints of baking spice. The bourbon is

### [Some Calif. Vintners Turn to Agave](https://bevnews.net/some-calif-vintners-turn-to-agave/)

Here's why some California winegrape growers are planting agave plants: The state has imposed water restrictions, the grape business is in the bottom of the barrel (I was going to say "dumps," but bottom of the barrel just sounded better), it's cheaper to plant and cultivate, require less water and maintenance.
