# Consumer Confidence Declines

The LSEG/Ipsos Primary Consumer Sentiment Index for August 2026 is at 49.4\. Fielded from July 24 – August 5, 2026, the Index is down 1.6 points from last month.

The Current and Investment sub-indices declined around two points each this month. Each respective sub-index now sits more than five points below its August 2025 reading.

The Expectations sub-index is down nearly three points this month. It now sits more than two points below its reading from this time last year.

Lastly, the Jobs sub-index is stable this month and is the only sub-index that did not decline. It is now in line with its reading from a year ago.

**The Current Index** reads at 39.2, down 2.1 points from last month. The index now sits 5.9 points lower than its reading from this time last year (45.1).

**The Expectations Index** reads at 56.1, down 2.7 points from last month. The index now sits 2.5 points lower than its August 2025 reading (58.5).

**The Investment Index** is at 42.0, down 1.9 points from July. The index is now 5.4 points lower than its August 2025 reading (47.4).

**The Jobs Index** reads at 63.3, stable (-0.1 point) from July. The index is now in line (-0.4 point) with its reading from a year ago (63.7).
