# Sazerac Explores Takeover of Berentzen

Berentzen said it is the latest target in an acquisition drive by Sazerac. Sazerac declined to comment. 

Berentzen says it is one of the oldest spirits producers in Germany and its schnapps brand leads the market in fruity spirits. 

First-half profit fell 84%, a result, the company said, of low demand for its products, especially in Germany, where consumer financials are stressed.
