Costco said it was recalling Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene purchased between April 25 and Aug. 26 because the bottles could shatter without warning.
The affected bottles were sold in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Unopened bottles of the product can shatter even when they aren't being handled. Customers should wrap the unopened bottles in paper towels and place them in a plastic bag before disposing of them, the company said.
It isn't kow how many bottles were affected or if there were any injuries. Ethica Wines imported the wines from Italy, the Associated Press reported.
