Gallo will permanently close Ranch Winery in St. Helena, Calif., according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notice filed with the State. Fifty-six employees will be affected.
It also will lay off workers at the Louis M. Martini Winery and the Orin Swift tasting room; at J Vineyards, which produces sparking wines, and the Frei Ranch, both in Healdsburg. Layoffs will affects a number of departments.
Gallo has been in a major downsizing efforts caused by a global oversupply of grapes as have othe major producers including Foley Family Wines and Spirits closed Chalone Vineyards' winery; Trinchero listed two of vineyards for sale.
