Citing unnamed sources, Reuters and The Wall Street Journal are reporting that Sazerac Co. is exploring a deal for Brown-Forman. It's been previously reported that Pernod Ricard is also in talks that may lead to a merger with the largest U.S. distiller by market cap.
On a global basis, Brown-Forman is the world's 11th largest publicly held distiller by market cap.
Brown-Forman's shares jumped 11.44% following the report of Sazerac's interest.
In the fiscal year ended April 30, 2025, Brown-Forman's net sales were $4 billion, down 5% from the prior year. Privately held Sazerac's sales are said to be in the $3 billion tp $5 billion range.
Pernod Ricard is the No. 4 global distiller by market cap, but it also is involved in wines. Combining Brown-Forman and Pernod would produce an entity with a market cap of $33.18 billion, making it larger than Constellation Brands, the largest U.S.-based bev/al company. .
