South Australian Exports to U.S. Soared 43% in 2022

China is continuing its steep tariffs on Australian wine, which have led to a sharp drop in grape prices, especially for red varieties.  

But Australian vintners aren't sitting still.  Wine Australia has introduced a program to help Australian wineries crack the U.S. market, a market that Winemaker John Innes of Ottelia Wines calls "surprising."

"It sounds easy, but America is one of the most complex markets you could think of because basically each state is like exporting to a separate country," he said.
