Bardstown Barrel to Serve as Kentucky Time Capsule
Kentuckians are being encouraged to contribute their voices, stories, photgraphs, artwork and hopes for the future to the Kentucky Time Capsule, a project of Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams.
“Housed in a modified traditional Kentucky bourbon barrel, the time capsule symbolizes both our rich heritage and our shared commitment to the future,” Adams said. “We hope this project inspires Kentuckians to reflect on their role in democracy and civic life.”
It will be opened in 2051, just 25 years from now. Prominent Kentuckians, includings Sens Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, have already contributed.
The bourbon barrel time capsule will travel across Kentucky throughout the year and ultimately will house the winning entries from the Secretary of State’s 2026 annual essay and slogan contests.
