Colorado to Vote on Wine in Groceries
If passed by the voters, a measure on the Nov. 8 ballot would permit supermarkets to sell wine beginning March 1, 2023. Presently supermarkets can only sell full-strength beer – and they gained the right to do that only three years ago.
This is the second time the measure has been considered by voters. Last time, in 1982, it was rejected 65% to 35%. Proponents are hopeful attitudes have changed since then.
Thirty-nine other states allow wine to be sold in supermarkets and backers argue that, especially as more people have moved to Colorado from out of state, they increasingly expect to see wine for sale at the grocery store.
