Diageo agreed to pay CA$23 million (US$16.8M) to the Ontario government to ensure Crown Royal remains available in Ontario, where the provincial government has a monopoly of selling liquor.
It involves a dispute dating back to 2022 when Diageo said it intended to close it Amherstburg, Ontario, bottling facility. That led Ontario Premier Doug Ford to ban Crown Royal from all Liquor Board of Ontario (LCBO) stores.
The Spirits Business first reported the agreement.
