FX Matt to Acquire Flying Dog

Flying Dog Brewery will end production in Frederick, Md., by August as a result of its sale to Utica-based  F.X. Matt Brewing.

In a statement, Flying Dog CEO Jim Caruso, said that while “Frederick is a great place to live and do business, unfortunately even though we have invested millions of dollars in the brewery, it has too many limitations and puts Flying Dog at too great a competitive disadvantage.”

Fying Dog said it will build an "innovation brewery" in Frederick.  The company also operates a taproom at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

The news follows an earlier announcement that Diageo is preparing the end manufacturing of Guinness Baltimore Blonde and other products as it shutters a brewery just outside Baltimore.  Baltimore County pledged $500,000 to maintain Guinness Baltimore Blonde as a local beer, but that offer was unsuccessful.

And Gordon Biersch closed its Annapolis, Md., brewery and restaurant in February.
