Inflation Eases for the 6th Consecutive Month

The consumer price index rose 6.5% from a year earlier,  That's down from 7.1% in November and below the peak of 9.1% in June, the Labor Department said.

Core CPI, which excludes energy and food prices, rose 5.7%, down from 6% in November.  Many economists think Core CPI is a better signal of future inflation than the overall CPI.
