No THC Relief in House-Passed Farm Bill
Bipartisan amendments to either regulate hemp-derived THC products or delay the impending federal ban on hemp-derived cannabinoid products were either withdrawn or not allowed to advance as the House passed the Farm Bill.
The measure now goes to the Senate where advocates hope for amendments to provide protection or a regulatory path akin to that of alcohol. .
The vote means that without further congressional action, the recriminalization of most consumable hemp-derived products will still occur on Nov. 12, 2026.
Technically, products containing no more than 0.4 milligrams of total THC per container for finished consumable products will remain legal. The THC industry estimates this will eliminate about 95% of current products on the market.
Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America, which has advocated for regulation "to keep consumers safe while they have access to their intoxicating product of choice," didn't immediately respond to our request for comment.
