Southwest Airlines says it will allow passengers to ship home a complete case of wine from some wine country locations without incurring checked baggage costs.

Whether this will offset the pain of Southwest increasing its checked bag fee on most U.S. mainland itineraries to $45 and the second to $55 on tickets booked after April 9 remains to be seen. The airline caved to Wall Street pressure to end its longstanding two-bags-fly-free promise for most fares, thereby reducing it competitive advantages against the industry leaders, United, Delta and American.
