Whether this will offset the pain of Southwest increasing its checked bag fee on most U.S. mainland itineraries to $45 and the second to $55 on tickets booked after April 9 remains to be seen. The airline caved to Wall Street pressure to end its longstanding two-bags-fly-free promise for most fares, thereby reducing it competitive advantages against the industry leaders, United, Delta and American.
