Vineyard Losses Reported in Spain from Wildfires

Among the vineyards known to be damaged is San Gregorio, a historic parcel owned by Bodega El Reventón, the winery founded by Adrianna Catena, Alejandro Vigil and Gearóid Lane. Lane said the estate had suffered major damage in the vineyard, whose fruit is used for one of its two single-parcel wines. The Sierra de Gredos has attracted attention in the last 10 years because of its old bush vines, granite soils and high-elevation sites. Old vines are vulnerable because age, low yields and adaptation to specific sites over decades. Replanting may eventually restore production, but it cannot immediately restore the character.

The loss of forestry will also have a profound impact on both Spain and France.
