Women for WineSense Launches Evidence-Based Wine & Health Resource

Women For WineSense (WWS), the national organization for wine education and networking, launched its new Wine and Health educational resource.

Developed by National Director of Education Tessa Butterfield in collaboration with retired physician Dr. Edward J. Miller, the comprehensive series provides clear, evidence-based answers to the public’s most frequently asked questions about wine and wellness.

The resource was created to address widespread misinformation and encourage more informed conversations around wine consumption. It translates complex clinical data into accessible insights on breast cancer risk, sugar content, heart health, the “J-shaped curve in data,” and the true biological impact of antioxidants such as resveratrol and oligomeric procyanidins (OPCs).

“We recognized a desire among both wine enthusiasts and wine professionals to move past scary headlines and look at actual data,” said Butterfield. This educational series explores the research behind those questions, providing balanced, science-based answers that help individuals make lifestyle choices aligned with their values and health priorities.

“The key is to view alcohol through the lens of informed moderation—understanding that it operates on a risk spectrum, not a yes/no switch,” said Dr. Edward J. Miller. “Ultimately, informed decisions are often better than fear-based ones. Understanding both the potential risks and the broader context allows each person to make choices that fit their own health priorities and lifestyle.”

The complete Wine and Health resource is free to the public and can be accessed directly at http://www.womenforwinesense.org/wine-and-health/.
