Southern Glazer's to Pay $12.5 Million to Resolve Bribery Case

Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits agreed to pay $12.5 million as part of a non-prosecution agreement (NPA) with the U.S. Justice Department for bribing employees of alcohol retailers, including chain grocery stores, to induce them to purchase alcohol distributed by SGWS. Hot Coffee and Tea Linked to Esophageal Cancer: Study

A just-released study finds that drinking coffee or tea at "very hot" temperatures (defined by the World Health Organization as 149 Degree Fahrenheit or higher) is associated with a three-fold greater risk of developing esophageal squamous cell carcinoma than drinking the same beverage "warm."

New Study Highlights Positive Health Effects of Wine Antioxidants

A new study highlighting the positive health effects of a wine enriched with polyphenols, which are antioxidants, has just been published in Food & Function, a journal of the Royal Society of Chemistry. The research evaluated the effects of moderate consumption of a reduced-alcohol wine enriched with polyphenols derived from grape skins, compared with a traditional wine. This was assessed through a randomized clinical trial involving adults who were overweight or met at least one diagnostic criteria

Calif. Wineries Get More Access to Consumers

Small California wineries will get broader access to certified farmers markets under a new California that permits farm wineries that purchase winegrapes from other growers to sell at farmers markets. Under current law, only wine produced from estate-grown fruit could be sold at farmers markets. The new law also permits three winegrowers to conduct instructional tastings during a market's operating hours.

Italian Winery to Donate to U.S. Organic Farmers' Association for Fly-In

Candoni Wines said it is donating $2 for every case of Candoni Organic Wines sold in September to the Organic Farmers' Association (OFA). The money will contribute to travel, training and preparation for the OFA members who will meet with members of Congress to discuss OFA's priorities. The 2026 fly-in was in March. Among the topics OFA sought to educate its members about were protecting U.S. organic farmers against fraudulent imported products and expanding the Organic Certification Cost Share
