DISCUS Offers Alc Education Materials in Spanish

Distilled Spirits Council (DISCUS) is marking Alcohol Responsibility Month and Spanish Language Day (April 23) by offering alcohol education materials in Spanish that feature important information about alcohol consumption and the adult diet.

The education materials, which are available on the DISCUS website, include a brochure and video, based on the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The Dietary Guidelines form the basis of federal nutrition policy and programs, and are updated jointly every five years by the U.S. Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS).

“Like we saw during the pandemic, important medical information must be made available in multiple languages if we want to protect our communities. In neighborhoods like mine in Southern California, there are many households that only speak Spanish,” said Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (D-Calif.). “When it comes to spreading information about the dangers of alcohol abuse, it is critical we reach everyone – no matter what language they speak. This Alcohol Responsibility Month, I’m proud to partner with the Distilled Spirits Council to promote moderation and improve the overall health and well-being of our communities.”

These new materials support USDA’s MiPlato initiative to offer Dietary Guidelines and MyPlate materials in Spanish language as well as the USDA’s agency-wide priority to develop culturally relevant resources and reach historically underserved communities.
