Grapevines Under Solar Panels Grew 277% More Grapes than Those in Full Sun

Grapevines that grew in the shadow of photovoltaic, or solar, panels produced 277% more grapes than those grown in full sun. Shading from the panels increased soil moisture and moderated soil temperature, benefitting the vine, according to a study by researchers at the University of Bari.

The vineyard in which the experiment was conducted was in the Puglia region of Italy, an area known for hot, dry conditions.
