Patron Marks Dia de Muertos with Comedy Skit

On Nov. 2, Patron will bring La Última Risa - The Last Laugh to the legendary New York City comedy club The Stand, a one-night-only comedy show inspired by calaveritas literarias, the centuries-old Mexican tradition of writing witty verses that poke fun at the quirks and personalities of friends and family.

Often described as “the original roast battle”, calaveritas bring humor and irreverence to Día de Muertos, offering a playful way to honor those who came before while celebrating those still here.

The show draws on a custom that has long made room for humor alongside reverence. Each year, Mexicans write calaveritas literarias: short, witty verses in which La Muerte comes to collect friends and family, often for the very quirks that make them who they are. Like many Mexican traditions, calaveritas are passed down and made personal, each verse crafted with wit, creativity and a deep understanding of the people they celebrate.

Comedy trailblazer Sofía Niño de Rivera will headline the show. Niño de Rivera is a pioneer of Mexican stand-up and the first Mexican woman to release a Spanish-language comedy special on a major streaming platform, currently touring internationally with "Vacaciones de Sus Hijos."

Niño de Rivera is joined by Jesus Trejo, Chingo Bling, Cris Sosa, and Jilberto Soto, with stand-up, actor, and writer Xazmin Garza hosting the 75-minute show. Like Patron Tequila, all six comics have deep respect for their Mexican heritage and the traditions behind Día de Muertos. Each will take the calaveritas literarias beyond the page and onto the stage—where no tía, primo, or abuelo is safe.

"Día de Muertos is a time to celebrate the lives and legacies of those who came before us, while honoring the memories and connections that continue to live on," said Roberto Ramirez-Laverde, Global Senior VP, Patron Tequila. "With La Última Risa, Patron is bringing that spirit of remembrance to life on stage through an evening of comedy, craft and culture. Legacy and tradition are at the heart of Patron—from how we make our tequila to how we celebrate—and we're proud to honor those roots while bringing a little piece of Mexico to New York for the night."

Patron will invite a limited number of guests 21 or older to see Mexican tradition and comedy come to life at La Última Risa on Nov, 2. Fans can also catch highlights from the night on Patron Tequila's social channels in the days after the show.

Fans can mark the day at home with a collection of Día de Muertos cocktails on patrontequila.com, including the Tía Mula, a bright, gingery take on the mule made with PATRÓN Silver and finished with a cempasúchil, the marigold that guides spirits home.
