Costco Sold More Plants With Glassy-Winged Sharpshooter Pests
Costco is warning California customers who recently bought desert willow plants that the glassy winged sharpshooter may be living on them. The invasive insect can “cause major damage to the environment and the economy,” particularly the state’s $73-billion wine industry. The desert willow is a small tree or shrup with trumpet-shaped flowers that bloom in pink, lavender and white. The glassy-winged sharpshooter feeds on plant fluids and can spread a bacterium that can cause Pierce's disease.
Kroger Launches In-Store Wine Shops
Kroger Co. is launching in-store Wine Shops at 14 of its stores in its Cincinnati/Dayton Division. Customer response will determine whether the concept will expand to other regions. The shops will be different from wine departments currently in some stores in that they will sell wines from “acclaimed and emerging producers” and will include tasting bars staffed by trained in-store wine stewards. The Wine Shop will carry a selection of more than 130 wines, many of which will be imported.
